Connect your mobile phone via Bluetooth to be able to use handsfree functions or stream music wirelessly in your car. This article describes how to set up a connection between your mobile phone and your Volvo.

Connect your mobile phone to the car via Bluetooth

It is possible to have two Bluetooth devices connected simultaneously, one of which is only for streaming media. The last phone connected is automatically connected in order to make calls, send/receive messages, stream media and provide an Internet connection. Your mobile phone needs to be equipped with Bluetooth and support tethering. For information on mobile phones and compatibility, see Phones and Bluetooth compatibility.

Connection is performed once per device. After connection, nothing else is required other than the Bluetooth device having Bluetooth activated.

To connect your phone to your car via Bluetooth, see the video tutorial or follow the instructions below.

The function is called “tethering” on iPhones and “personal hotspot” on Android phones. For iPhones, the “tethering” menu page must remain open until the internet connection has been established.

Open the tile for the phone.

  • If no phone is connected to the car, press Add phone.
  • If a phone is already connected to the car, press Change. In the pop-up box, press Add phone.

Available Bluetooth devices are listed.

Press the name of the phone to be connected and follow the instructions in the centre display.

The message function must be activated in certain phones.

Not all cell phones are fully compatible and can show contacts and messages in the car.

If the phone's operating system is being updated, it is possible that the connection will be interrupted. Delete the phone from the car and reconnect.
